Why XL Candy Is Important in Pokemon GO

Why XL Candy Is Important in Pokemon GO

XL Candy was added to further increase your Pokemon’s level in Pokemon GO.

It was added in the GO Beyond update in 2020 when the level cap was increased to 50.

With an XL Candy, you can now also increase the level of your Pokemon from 40 to 50, which will increase its CP.

But what is the importance of XL Candy, especially to competitive PoGO players?

XL Candy and Master League

In Master League, there are no CP limits which means you can bring any Pokemon, including powerful Legendaries, Pseudo-Legendaries, Mythicals, and many more.

Without any CP limit having a level 50 Pokemon is a must to compete with the best trainers.

You can still use a lower-level Pokemon, but it will have limited potential, resulting in you losing at higher ranks.

How Much XL Candy Do You Need to Reach Level 50?

Unfortunately, increasing your Pokemon to level 50 does cost a lot of Stardust and XL Candy.

To level up a Pokemon from level 40 to 50, you need 296 XL Candy.

Shadow and Purified Pokemon are a little different, they need 360 and 272 XL Candy, respectively.

Varies from Pokemon to Pokemon, CP increases slightly diminish at higher levels

Firstly, to obtain XL Candy you must be Trainer Level 31.

You can them by catching Pokemon, transferring Pokemon, Raids, hatching eggs, trading, walking your buddy, or converting Candies to XL Candy.

100 regular Candy is equivalent to 1 XL Candy which means it costs 296,000 Candies to level up a Pokemon from level 40 to level 50.

On top of the amount of XL candy to level up a Pokemon from 40 to 50, you also need 250,000 Stardust.

Difference Between Level 40 and Level 50 Pokemon

When we compare a level 40 Pokemon to a level 50, there is a 13% increase in their CP.

For instance, a perfect IV Dragonite has a 3,792 CP at level 40 and a 4,287 CP at level 50.

This increase may appear relatively small when you consider the resource needed to get the Pokemon there.

However, it will make a significant difference to how strong your Pokemon is in battle.

As a result, it isn’t just recommended to level them up but is a must if you want to beat the best trainers in Master League.
