Pokemon GO Type Chart – All Strengths and Weaknesses

Pokemon GO Type Chart – All Strengths and Weaknesses

In the world of Pokemon, there are 18 types and Pokemon GO is no different.

These typings refer to elemental traits which are connected to a Pokemon and its moves.

Each type has strengths and weaknesses, so if you want to dominate the Pokemon GO Battle Leagues, you need to know all of these.

With that in mind, we made a chart to help you familiarize yourself with Pokemon GO’s types.

If you want more in-depth information for each type of Pokemon then check out our individual guides below:

Easy Pokemon Weakness Chart

The below poster shows what most trainers would call a Pokemon type effectiveness and weakness chart.

However, it actually shows each type’s strengths and vulnerabilities. The specific definitions are discussed below.

Strengths, Weaknesses, Resistances, and Vulnerabilities Definition

The type of a Pokemon determines what moves it is vulnerable to. Meanwhile, the type of a move determines what that’s effective against.

A Pokemon can have up to two Types, but a move only has one Type.

For instance, a Ground-type move on an Ice-type Pokemon will be super effective. Conversely, using a Bug-type move on a Fire-type Pokemon is not very effective.

However, there is more to it than simply being “super effective” and “not very effective.”

Pokemon types not only have Strengths and Weaknesses (which we highlighted above) but they also have Resistances and Vulnerabilities.

To fully understand these critical differences we have defined each below:

  • Strengths: Which type of Pokemon an attack of x type is super effective against (e.g. Fire attack against a Grass type Pokemon)
  • Weaknesses: Which type of Pokemon an attack of x type is not very effective against (e.g. Fire attack against a Water type Pokemon)
  • Resistances: Which types of attack Pokemon of x type will receive less damage from (e.g. Fire attack against a Fire type Pokemon)
  • Vulnerabilities: Which types of attack Pokemon of x type will receive more damage from (e.g. Water attack against a Fire type Pokemon)

Effectiveness Multiplier

How much damage strengths and weaknesses do (effectiveness multiplier) varies between Pokemon games.

In Pokemon GO, the effectiveness multipliers are as follows:

  • Not very effective: 0.625x damage
  • Super effective: 1.6x damage
  • Immunity: 0.39x damage
  • Double super effective: 2.56x damage

This is why type effectiveness is so important.

Making the most of your Pokemon’s strengths is the best way to be successful when battling.

Double Weakness

Pokemon with dual types can be vulnerable to attacks that are ‘double super effective’.

For example, Charizard is a dual Fire and Flying type Pokemon. As Fire and Flying types are both vulnerable to Rock type moves, any Rock type move utilized will cause 256% damage.

Here are the Pokemon that have a double weakness in Pokemon GO:

  • Alolan Ninetales: Steel
  • Alolan Sandslash: Fighting and Fire
  • Altaria: Ice
  • Articuno: Rock
  • Bastiodon: Fighting and Ground
  • Breloom: Flying
  • Charizard: Rock
  • Dragonite: Ice
  • Escavalier: Fire
  • Flygon: Ice
  • Garchomp: Ice
  • Golem: Grass and Water
  • Gliscor: Ice
  • Gyarados: Electric
  • Hearcross: Flying
  • Ho-Oh: Rock
  • Landorus (Incarnate Forme): Ice
  • Moltres: Rock
  • Rayquaza: Ice
  • Rhyperior: Grass and Water
  • Scrafty: Fairy
  • Seismitoad: Grass
  • Shiftry: Bug
  • Swampert: Grass
  • Toxicroak: Psychic
  • Tropius: Ice
  • Tyranitar: Fighting
  • Virizion: Fighting
  • Weavile: Fighting
  • Whiscash: Grass

Interestingly, mostly Ice type moves are the bane of the Pokemon with double weaknesses.

Are There Immunities in Pokemon GO?

As you may have observed, Pokemon GO has no type immunity.

Instead of having a total damage immunity, they tweaked it to make those attacks weaker, around a third of the usual damage.

For example, using a Ground-type move on a Flying-type Pokemon will make them receive 0.39x damage (39%).
