Flying Type Pokemon Weakness and Strengths Guide

Flying Type Pokemon Weakness and Strengths Guide

The Flying typing is the most commonly paired type in all of Pokemon, so learning its strengths and weaknesses is essential.

Flying Pokemon have currently the highest Speed stat average among all types. They dash through the air at such quickness and can even evade certain attacks.

But there’s a way to take these speedsters down! Here’s our guide on Flying Pokemon’s weaknesses, strengths, and resistances.

What Pokemon Are Good Against Flying?

Electric, Ice, and Rock Pokemon are super effective against Flying Pokemon.

Some excellent moves to use against Flying Pokemon are Rock Slide and Power Gem from Rock, Volt Switch and Thunderbolt from Electric Pokemon, and Aurora Beam and Blizzard from Ice Pokemon.

What Are Flying Pokemon Strong Against?

Flying type moves are super effective against these types of Pokemon:

  • Bug
  • Fighting
  • Grass

Some excellent Flying type moves to use are Tailwind, Hurricane, Brave Bird, Sky Attack, and the classic move Fly.

To improve Flying Pokemon’s coverage, teaching it Ground type moves or having it as an additional typing is a good idea.

Ground is strong against types that resist Flying Pokemon, such as Electric, Rock, and Steel. It can also protect itself from Electric attacks, which is a notable weakness of Flying Pokemon.

However, Ground/Flying is a rare dual type, and we’ve yet to see a Pokemon with Flying/Ground as its typing in that order, technically making it an unused type combination.

What Are Flying Pokemon Resistant To?

Flying Pokemon are resistant to Bug, Fighting, and Grass type moves.

They are also immune to Ground type moves.

Some abilities, moves, and entry hazards also do not affect Flying Pokemon.

The ability Arena Trap doesn’t stop Flying Pokemon from fleeing the battle. Switching into a battle with the move Toxic Spikes activated won’t hurt Flying Pokemon, too.

Best Counters For Flying Pokemon

Some of the best Pokemon to counter Flying Pokemon are Jolteon (Electric), Manectric (Electric), Aurorus (Rock/Ice), and Dusk Form Lycanroc (Rock).

Remember that Flying Pokemon are speedy but weak to Electric, Ice, and Rock moves.

Electric and Rock both resist Flying moves too, while Ice unfortunately doesn’t. Flying type’s Defense and Special Defense are also on the lower side.

Both Jolteon and Manectric have high Special Attack and Speed. Manectric has the Static ability that may paralyze opponents, while Jolteon is quite the glass cannon among the Eeveelutions.

Aurorus might not be as speedy, but it has high HP, excellent Special Attack and Special Defense, and decent Attack and Defense. Lastly, Lycanroc’s Dusk Form can hit hard and fast with its high Attack and Speed.

You can also counter Flying Pokemon by using some moves that can bring them down from the sky. Gravity (Psychic type move) and Smack Down (Rock type move) can both make Flying Pokemon be grounded.
